GREAT CARE FOR LITTLE KIDNEYS. EVERYWHERE.
Dear friends and colleagues,
while the world is still grappling with the Ukraine crisis and the earthquake in Turkey and Syria, a new humanitarian catastrophe is evolving in Sudan. Due to the current fighting there the lives of the 8000 patients living on hemodialysis and over 4500 patients living with kidney transplants are being threatened because dialysis and immunosuppression supplies are running dangerously low. Of these patients 200 are children on dialysis (190 on HD, 10 on PD), plus an unknown number of transplanted children. Evacuations to neighbouring countries are ongoing but opportunities for this are very few, with vast distances and harsh climatic conditions making the border crossing difficult.
The ISN has set up a task force to coordinate efforts and to raise funds to purchase dialysis and immuosuppressant supplies until a more sustainable solution can be developed in collaboration with other international organizations. So far Fresenius has donated 10,000 dialysis kits for adults and children.
As with the campaign to support the dialysis and transplant patients in Ukraine last year (also around 10,000 patients), the donations are being collected through the ISN in collaboration with Direct Relief, a non-governmental organization which was very instrumental in delivering support for the patients in Ukraine. Donations can be made through the following link: https://donate.directrelief.org/campaign/the-international-society-of-nephrology/c490267
Thank you for your consideration to contribute!
