Optimal care for all children with kidney disease

Stories

Children with kidney issues are at the core of everything we do. IPNA was founded to help young people who lack adequate treatment options to live fuller, healthier lives.

Meet Illinca
Patient, Romania
Diagnosed with atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome, an extremely rare life-threatening progressive type of kidney disease.
Meet Dr. Beatriz Fretes
IPNA fellow from Paraguay
Pediatric kidney transplant in developing country. Thirty years later… The implementation of a pediatric kidney transplant program in a hospital environment where patients of limited financial resources and without social security are treated, requires adequate infrastructure but also an experienced multidisciplinary team.
Meet Dr. Frederick Kaskel
United States
Dr. Kaskel volunteering in Vietnam reviews with physicians the treatment protocol for children with kidney disease resulting from AIDS.

Prof. Dra created the Department of Pediatric Nephrology Hospital de Clinicas Universidad Nacional de Asuncion. Leticia Florentin in 2012 and since then, with the generous support of groups like IPNA in academic knowledge and generous donations from private foundations, is developing from the dialysis therapy to the definitive renal transplant, now in the beginning stage (three transplants since December 2016). Hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis are the two major pillars of the support treatment, two areas that the medical community in Paraguay still needs more training.

Thanks for the support given to continue my formation in Pediatric Nephrology at Hôpital Mère-Enfants Lyon, France under the guidance of Professor Pierre Cochat.

CHILDREN WITH KIDNEY DISEASE

The International Pediatric Nephrology Association works to raise awareness about kidney disease in children.

Kids@2x

How we help

IPNA’s global network of 1,847 pediatric nephrologists and medical professionals across 116 countries, operates under the premise that all children deserve to be healthy, receive optimal care, and care for kidney disease.

With better training programs and long-term follow up, we can dramatically impact the lives of children dealing with kidney disease – but we need your help furthering our programs and global health projects.

Support Healthy Kidneys

You can make an impact on global kidney health in children

You may be looking for a project that closely matches your own passion, ambition, expertise, and life story. Everyone is different, and we will develop a tailor-made approach for you. Our flexibility will allow you to have the maximum impact.

TEACHING COURSE PARTICIPANTS
5,000

Over 5,000 healthcare providers have expanded their knowledge by attending an IPNA Teaching Course since 2013. More than 100 IPNA Teaching Courses have been offered to date—all with the common goal of improved diagnosis and treatment of kidney disease in children. With your support, we will have a greater impact on global healthcare.

FELLOWSHIPS
300

More than three hundred fellows have gained extensive, hands-on training in pediatric nephrology at IPNA Training Centers. We need to fund additional fellowships to train more doctors who can accurately diagnose and treat kidney disease in children.

SPONSORED PEDIATRICIANS
60

The IPNA member sponsorship program support doctors from developing parts of the world without financial resources to receive access to the latest research on diagnosis and treatment for kidney disease in children. They are also able particpate in the many different teaching opprtunities organized by IPNA and our partners.

About IPNA

IPNA facilitates the exchange of knowledge and expertise without barriers, does not discriminate and is committed to international understanding. Through our programs, IPNA works to disseminate knowledge about kidney disease in children in the areas where care is needed most, and IPNA is the ONLY organization in the world today providing these services for children with kidney disease.

We teach and train through fellowships, teaching courses, junior classes and more. When one IPNA doctor trains 100 doctors in a developing country, thousands of children receive care, and lives are saved. While the impact of our programs leads to positive outcomes, the value of having access to just one IPNA- trained doctor is absolutely immeasurable to a family who is desperately trying to save their child’s life.

You can make an impact on global kidney health in children by supporting IPNA’s programs. Your donation will further strengthen our community medical systems around diagnosis and treatment to address the disparity in healthcare in developing nations. Please join us in caring for Little Kidneys.
