Renee Habib, the first pediatric renal pathologist, was pivotal in pediatric nephrology and IPNA’s founding. In 1963, her landmark text Problemes Atuels de Nephrologie Infantile introduced “pediatric nephrology” to medical literature. She led the ISKDC’s pathologic team and was a key figure in pediatric nephrology’s global development. Known as “Nenette,” she was a dedicated mentor at Necker-Enfants Malades.

Gustavo Gordillo founded one of the world’s first pediatric nephrology departments at Hospital Infantil de Mexico in 1954. He trained professionals across Mexico and Latin America, organized the First International Symposium in Pediatric Nephrology (Guadalajara 1968), and was key in forming ALANEPE.
