Dr. Gavin Arneil (UK) from the USA served as the first IPNA Secretary General from 1974 to 1983!

Renee Habib, the first pediatric renal pathologist, was pivotal in pediatric nephrology and IPNA’s founding. In 1963, her landmark text Problemes Atuels de Nephrologie Infantile introduced “pediatric nephrology” to medical literature. She led the ISKDC’s pathologic team and was a key figure in pediatric nephrology’s global development. Known as “Nenette,” she was a dedicated mentor at Necker-Enfants Malades.
Gustavo Gordillo founded one of the world’s first pediatric nephrology departments at Hospital Infantil de Mexico in 1954. He trained professionals across Mexico and Latin America, organized the First International Symposium in Pediatric Nephrology (Guadalajara 1968), and was key in forming ALANEPE.

The IPNA Global Registry for Pediatric Kidney Replacement Therapy integrates demographic, treatment and outcome data from nearly 70 countries. It has empowered pediatric nephrologists in almost 30 countries to build their own national registries for dialysis and transplantation in children.
