IPNA Fellowship Program Eligibility Criteria

If you can answer positively all these questions, you are ready to proceed
with your application:

✓ Are you at least 30 years old?
✓ Are you living and working in a developing country? (low, lower middle or upper middle economy according to the World Bank criteria)
✓ Can you confirm that you have not received any formal training in Nephrology?
✓ Are you nominated by a Home Mentor and your Home Institution who guarantees your re-employment once training has been completed?
✓ Can you be recommended by a senior nephrologist in your home country?
✓ Have you identified an appropriate Host Mentor and Institution, preferably within your region, with whom you have agreed on a suitable training plan?
✓ Does your training plan reflect the skills and knowledge that are required by your Home Institution and which you can implement on your return?
✓ Can you understand and communicate in the host country’s language?

The candidate is strongly advised to look for information about practical issues (tax, housing, transportation, security) in the host city prior to applying.
! Applicants with previous experience in Pediatric Nephrology outside their home countries are not eligible for Fellowship.

The Applicant’s letter (minimum of 500 words) should clearly specify the application’s personal aspirations and how the training could impact the home institution and region. The letter should be countersigned by the home mentor and hospital director. The letter should provide information on existing resources and capabilities at the home institution and should specifically state if renal biopsy, CRRT, peritoneal dialysis, hemodialysis and renal transplantation are offered at the home institution. The letter should also state which techniques the IPNA fellowship training will enable the fellow to begin or expand at the home institution.

This letter should include a detailed and customized training plan, including at least five specific goals against which the success of the fellowship will be assessed. There should be sufficient details to judge the match between the applicant’s aspirations, the Host Center offer, and the strategy of the Home Center. The letter should document that there will be hands-on training. The letter should be consistent with the goals in the Applicant’s letter above and should reflect that the applicant and the supervisor at the host Center developed the training plan together to meet the candidates needs.

The letter of recommendation from the home mentor should describe the required type of training and its expected local impact.

This letter should address the candidate’s personal and professional characteristics, as well as how the IPNA fellowship will benefit the candidate and the home institution.

Attach Letter by Relevant Local Society(Required)

The letter by the relevant local or regional society leader describing the number of nephrologists in the home country, the current education opportunities and how the training might impact local nephrology standards. If you are applying from a country where there is no nephrology practice, you can apply for a fellowship only if you have government or institutional support to set up a nephrology practice upon your return.

Attach Letter by home institution director guaranteeing re-employment upon completion of training(Required)

This letter must address the existing capabilities at the home institution and scope of work that the fellow will be able to attend upon returning to the home institution.
