IPNA Currents October/2019

Dear IPNA Members, Dear Friends,

I hope this newsletter finds you well!

I am glad to meet most of you shortly in Venice, where we will have a great scientific and friendly time together. But I sincerely think of all those who could not attend for professional, financial, medical or familial reasons; we will miss you!

For those who will be in the Serenissime, I hope you could attend the General Assembly on October 19 at 17:00. We will sum up all our actions during the last 6 years and create projects together for the forthcoming 3 years.

With my best regards,

Pierre Cochat
IPNA President

IPNA Council

Since IPNA Councilors have six-year terms, a portion of the IPNA council rotates every three years, with the rotation occurring at the time of the triennial IPNA Congresses. We are very pleased to introduce five of the new Councilors to you in this newsletter issue.

With their enthusiasm and new ideas, we are sure they will make valuable contributions to IPNA Governance. All of the incoming Councilors were asked the same series of questions and you can read the full article here.

IPNA Educational Programs

From organizing teaching courses, junior classes or specific workshops around the world to providing training fellowships, IPNA is responding to the needs in resource poor areas of the world. Treating pediatric kidney disease is a major challenge in developing countries, and the work we do together proves that through commitment and partnerships we are delivering results.

Recently we received a gratifying reward to our Fellowship Program, when a former IPNA fellow applied to act as a mentor in the new training center. Specifically, the training center in Lagos/Nigeria where IPNA trainee, Dr. Christopher Esezobor, will become the IPNA trainer. Congratulations!

Teaching courses are also a big part of our educational efforts. A record number of eight IPNA teaching courses has been taking place in September on four continents. A big thank you to all the course organizers for making this happen and spreading our vision of “Optimal care for all children with kidney disease.” around the world.
Dr. Christopher Esezobor, former IPNA fellow, will now supervise our fellows at Lagos University Teaching Hospital that was recognized as another IPNA Training Center.
IPNA teaching course in Quibdó - Colombia was one of the courses that took place in September with more than 40 attendees.

The teaching materials from the course are available here.

Sister Center Program

The pilot project of IPNA Sister Center Program is already in its second year. Dr. Melvin Bonilla-Félix, Director of Center in Puerto Rico (University of Puerto Rico) recently visited the Center in Guatemala (Fundanier), directed by Dr. Randall Lou-Meda.

The second project of Sister Center Program (2019-2021) has started between National Hospital in Abuja/Nigeria and Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital (CMJAH) & University of the Witwatersrand  in Johannesburg/South Africa. Latest updates about this cooperation will follow soon.
