Partnerships in China Support Two IPNA Fellowship Recipients

The first recipient of the prestigious Professor MC Chiu IPNA Fund´s Fellowship

The Professor MC Chiu IPNA Fund for Paediatric Nephrology is a joint initiative of the IPNA, the Hong Kong Children’s Kidney Fund (CKF), and the Hong Kong Paediatric Nephrology Society (HKPNS). It was established in 2022 in memory of Professor Man-Chun Chiu (1949–2021), honouring his remarkable legacy as a pioneering figure in Paediatric Nephrology in Hong Kong, China, whose influence extended widely across the nation and the Asia-Pacific region. Over a distinguished career spanning more than four decades , Professor Chiu advanced the care of children with kidney disease, established specialised services, and spearheaded regional and international collaborations.

The Fund aims to sustain Prof Chiu’s legacy by fostering the training and development of paediatric nephrologists in China. It offers an annual six-month fellowship for clinicians, with training based at Hong Kong Children’s Hospital or other approved centres, providing opportunities for skills development, knowledge exchange, and professional network building. The first recipient of this prestigious fellowship, Dr Bai-ge Su from Peking University First Hospital, exemplifies the programme’s vision of nurturing future leaders in Paediatric Nephrology and strengthening national collaboration.

The Paediatric Nephrology Centre at Hong Kong Children’s Hospital (formerly located at Princess Margaret Hospital) provides a unique and enriching training environment. It has long served as a vital bridge between East and West, where diverse clinical practices and perspectives come together. Fellows benefit from meaningful professional exchange and exposure to a wide range of specialised paediatric programmes. Care is delivered through strong multidisciplinary teamwork, with a particular emphasis on holistic and family-centred approaches that integrate upfront clinical management with psychosocial support. In addition, the centre is actively engaged in multi-dimensional clinical researches in Paediatric Nephrology, further enhancing academic development and innovation. This combination of collaborative culture, comprehensive care, and academic opportunity ensures a highly rewarding and enriching experience for all fellows of the programme.

IPNA Renews Partnership With Children’s Hospital Of Fudan University In Shanghai To Support Fellowship Training In Pediatric Nephrology

We are pleased to renew our partnership with the Chengmai Charity Foundation to support IPNA Pediatric Nephrology Fellowships at the Children’s Hospital of Fudan University. In the latest round of the IPNA Fellowship Program, one fellow has been awarded a fellowship through this co-funded initiative.

Professor Hong Xu, MD, PhD, Secretary-General of Asian Pediatric Nephrology Association and Former President of the Children’s Hospital of Fudan University, as well as Prof. Qian Shen, MD, PhD, Chief of the Department of Nephrology, coordinate the Fellowship Program in collaboration with IPNA. Between 2021 and 2023, six IPNA Fellows completed their training at Fudan University with support from the Chengmai Charity Foundation.

The Children’s Hospital of Fudan University, affiliated with the National Health Commission, is a comprehensive tertiary pediatric hospital that integrates clinical care, teaching, research, prevention, and healthcare management.
