GREAT CARE FOR LITTLE KIDNEYS. EVERYWHERE.
Dear Colleagues,
The World Kidney Day campaign has announced an inspiring theme for 2025-2026: “Kidney Health For All – Caring for People, Protecting the Planet.” This call to action emphasizes that protecting human health is intrinsically linked to protecting the environment we all share.
To support this mission, the International Pediatric Nephrology Association (IPNA) encourages you to develop projects that integrate kidney care with planetary health. We are looking for innovative ideas that not only benefit patients but also promote sustainable practices.
For inspiration, your project could focus on:
· “Green Nephrology” Awareness: Educational campaigns on the environmental impact of kidney care (e.g., waste from dialysis, energy consumption) and promoting sustainable choices for patients and units.
· Sustainable Screening Strategies: Deploying low-resource, high-impact screening programs in remote or underserved areas, using portable and energy-efficient devices.
· Heat Stress & Kidney Health: Public health campaigns linking climate change (increasing heatwaves) to the risk of CKD from dehydration and heat stress, with practical prevention strategies.
· Telemedicine & Eco-Conscious Care: Projects that expand access to kidney care via telemedicine, reducing the carbon footprint from patient and family travel while improving early detection.
To bring these ideas to life, IPNA is proud to launch the 2026 World Kidney Day Contest, awarding $5,000 to the best project(s) that exemplify this year’s theme.
How to Apply:
For full contest details and to submit your project proposal, please visit the official IPNA website: https://theipna.org/programs/initiatives/ipna-supports-the-world-kidney-day/
The deadline for submissions is February 13, 2026.
We look forward to your innovative proposals that will help care for our patients and protect our planet.
Best wishes,
Ethwako Mlia Phiri
IPNA World Kidney Day Committee Chair
